Punishments for truancy in schools can vary widely by jurisdiction but often include measures such as warning letters sent to parents, mandatory attendance meetings, and counseling sessions. In some cases, schools may impose detention or require students to make up missed work. More severe consequences can involve fines for parents or legal action, including juvenile court proceedings. Additionally, habitual truants may face restrictions on extracurricular activities or participation in school events.
It's unlikely that they are. Reliable national data on the racial/ethnic makeup of schools isn't available before 1968. And, before Brown v. Board of Education the majority of African American students in the south attended schools that were more than 99% African American. However, a recent study by UCLA showed that U.S. school segregation hasn't been as high as it is now SINCE 1968. And, by some measures, it is more segregated now than it was then. For example, more Latino students now attend schools that are more with more than 50% minority students.http://www.civilrightsproject.ucla.edu/research/deseg/reversals_reseg_need.pdf

Well, honey, back in the Victorian era, schools were like boot camps with strict discipline, rote memorization, and corporal punishment. Nowadays, we've got modern schools with more focus on creativity, critical thinking, and hopefully fewer rulers to the knuckles. So, in a nutshell, Victorian schools were like a scene from Oliver Twist, while modern schools are more like a hipster coffee shop with Wi-Fi.
