The biggest advance in civilization from transportation is that it shrunk the world. When the wheel was invented it made the transportation off people and goods easier which brought peoples closer together. Further advances; trains, planes and the automobile shrunk the world even more. It once took a family a whole day to walk the 20 miles to grandma's house and now they can zip there in a few minutes in air-conditioned comfort.
