I assume you're talking about Imperial Rome, but their traits are very different to Republican Romans or Medieval Romans.

Your best approach would be to look at the major events of the period and see what you can deduce from that - I'm writing a project about the Romans and the Punic Wars, and looking at their absorption of massive casualties and refusal to give in, one trait I've realised is tenacity.
