-Turned China from a largely uncivilized, stone-age society to a modernized, industrial world power.

-United China after 18 years of bloody civil war and was at the verge of falling apart.

-Led and organized Chinese resistance fighters against Japanese invaders during WWII.

Cons:

-Responsible for massive genocide against the upper classes that made Hitler's atrocities pale in comparison.

-His political blunders led to a famine that claimed the lives of between 20 and 43 million Chinese citizens.

-Attempted to completely abolish any traces of Chinese culture or history predating himself.

-Generally opposed to anything religious or educational. Commanded a group of thugs known as Red Guards, who were ordered to burn books, blow up Churches and libraries, destroy ancient Chinese artifacts, and publicly execute scholars, intellectuals, and religious figures.

-Didn't brush his teeth.
