At the Siege of Yorktown, Cornwallis expressed that he would have preferred to either reinforce his positions with additional troops or to conduct a strategic retreat to a more defensible location. He believed that these strategies could have potentially altered the outcome of the battle and allowed him to avoid the encirclement by American and French forces. Instead, he was ultimately trapped and forced to surrender, marking a pivotal moment in the American Revolutionary War.
Yorktown was located on I would think Chesapeake bay.
{| |- | Some very poor planning on the part of the British. They mistakenly assumed that they would have full control of the sea. When the French Navy showed up off the coast rather then their own, they found themselves trapped by the Colonial Army. There was little choice but to surrender. |}
Yorktown was on the water on one side, so the British army could not escape the large American/French army that was bombarding them. Rather than let his soldiers die, their commander, Cornwallis, elect to surrender. Cornwallis had pleaded for help from General Clinton's ships up in New York, but Clinton would not hurry for anybody, and so the ships made it to Yorktown a couple of days after Cornwallis had surrendered.

To know which of the strategies and interventions would be useful it would be helpful to know what the strategies are. Without knowing this it is hard to say which one would be the most useful.
