In the 1920's business was thriving and people in general were optimistic about the free enterprise system. Communism is the opposite of free enterprise. At its best, the state runs everything and does it fairly and efficiently. In practice, the state manages poorly and only the people in charge live well. Communism in the US was tolerated in 20's but not popular.
