Who established African borders of modern African nations?

The Berlin Conference which took place in the late 19th century determined many of the borders of present day Africa. Most of the borders were arbitrary and made little sense relating to potential conflict.

Is pan-africanism a realistic alternative to the arbitrary borders left by Europeans?

No, organizations and alliances like the AU are a great start to solving problems in the continent and maintaining peace, but the same problems would only get worse if borders were erased. The reason the European laid borders are problematic is because ethnic groups were pushed together or split up arbitrarily. Erasing borders and calling Africa a single entity would re-spark ethnic tensions and cause a sovereignty nightmare. Africa can not be governed as a whole and borders show where the extent of a government's power rests.

What impact did European colonization have on the governments of modern Africa?

They changed the borders so that they are not as natural. You can tell because most borders are on rivers of mountain lines. Also they had them as slaves for so long so they are still trying to recover from that.

What were problems after the end of imperialism in Africa?

During imperialism, Europeans had been draining Africa's resourses, both natural and human. After they stopped, Africa was left with few resources, fewer native Africans, invasive European settlements that they battled with for land and resources, borders drawn arbitrarily by European imperialists within which they had to try to form fully functioning, developed countries, and some more small imperialism and slave trading.
