Fatal abdominal injuries were the cause of the death of King William I [c. 1027/1028-September 9, 1087] of England. The King was busy directing the burning of the French city of Mantes when he fell from his horse. In the process, he was injured by his saddle pommel. He died in the Convent of St Gervais, in the French city of Rouen. He was buried in the Abbaye-aux-Hommes in the French city of Caen.
