In 1930, the Communist Red Army 红军established the Chinese Soviet Republic中华苏维埃共和国 in the southern provinces of Jiangxi and Fujian around the city of Ruijin. At that time, the Republic of China was controlled by the Kuomintang, the party lead by Chiang Kai-shek. In the autumn of 1933, Chiang started a huge attack against the Communists who were in Jiangxi and Fujian. He sought to elliminate the Communists from the Chinese political landscape. In short, the Long March is the Red Army's military campaign to avoid and survive the hunt of the Kuomintang.
