The French were seen mainly wearing blue up untill WW2. In 1914, most French Infantry wore a Dark blue uniform coat, red or white trousers, and a Kepi, which was red, or light blue with a cover. In WW2, before the German Invasion the French wore light green uniform coats, pants, puttees, and dark green helmets. By 1945 when the french state was restored the French stuck mainly to their WW2 uniforms as well as a new design, which was shown in the 1954- French-Indochina war. The new French uniform was camoflage, with a Beret or slouch hat.

French mainly wore the colours Blue for the uniform top, Red or White for trousers, and their hats, or "Kepis" were mostly Red, White, or Blue. These colours would probably be seen in the french army up until the 1940's with the German occupation of France. Underground units wore civilian clothes with white armbands, showing the "Croix de Lorraine" and had "FFI" on them. The regular army wore mostly an olive drab colour and during the 1950's with the French-Indochina war they mostly wore Green, tan and camouflage. Today the French special forces wear black, the army wears a camouflage pattern called the "lizard pattern" and on home duty the French Foreign Legion wear tan and white uniforms with white kepis.
