Back in the U.S.S.R, or as it was then Imperial Russia. Mr. Dimitri ( good Russian name) Mendeleev not only evolved the periodical table of the elements- a 40 some odd year task with various revisions- he actually predicted some elements would be discovered with certain atomic weights... but founded and headed the Imperial Bureau of Standards of Czarist Russia. During the war- but after his time ( he died in l907) this expanded into sort of a Kremlin Think-Tank for applications of science towards defensive needs- always important in Russia. The Mendeleev Think Tank ( posthumously) came up with a Tank Destroyer using a Naval 5 inch gun- hence the name! while Dimitri was still alive in I believe l888 they got up a weather-reconnasiance camera for use on ships- and the Navy yard took up this idea with gusto. a modification was employed by the Manhattan Lines from that line"s short history of l932-38- they were absorbed by the federal US llines- in that period- there were no accidents on any Manhattan Liners! The weather camera in the hands of experienced observers surely played a role. Oddly Mendeleev never won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry though the Periodic Table is basic to that science. he would have been eligible from l900 (when the prizes began) to l907 ( he died in that year). oh well Dimitri Made his mark on Russian- and world science. he of the Periodic table ask as simple question, get a capsule biography- or is it test tube biography.

Dmitri Mendeleev was born in Russia. See link below for more information.

Oganesson (Og) is the heaviest element in the periodic table with the highest atomic number of 118. It is a synthetic element created in laboratories and is highly unstable, decaying within milliseconds.
The periodic table organizes elements based on their similar chemical properties and atomic structure, which allows scientists to predict properties of unknown elements and compounds. It serves as a fundamental tool in chemistry and other related fields to understand the properties and behavior of elements and their interactions.

During Mendeleev's time, not all of the elements had been discovered. He organized his table in such a fashion that the rows held similar properties. Also, the table was in order of Atomic Number. He knew that some elements had different properties then those next to them so he moved them down until he found it's matches.
