England and the Netherlands.

Henry Hudson (c. 1560-1611) was an English explorer who captained four Arctic expeditions. He made voyages to northern Greenland and northern Russia for the British, then two voyages to North America for the Dutch. All of his travels were aimed at finding the "Northwest Passage", an ice-free path through the Arctic Ocean. He explored much of northern Canada and was finally abandoned there by mutineers, being left to die along with his son and six others.
