As the Americas span a truly massive amount of land, the answer is radically varied.

However, horticulture was a relatively recent development among the native cultures of the Americas. As such, the most ancient of Americans would have subsisted upon edible fruits, vegetable matter, seeds, and nuts that could be foraged, and seafood along beaches, as well as any meat that may be obtained by hunting.

By the time of Pre-Colonial America, sophisticated agricultural industries had developed in Southern and Central America, and breads and other prepared or cooked foods would have been common, especially for celebrations.
