What did Hitler want to do when he left school?

He wanted to be an artist. No joke, he reportedly fought bitterly with his father over it. After graduating from school, he applied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He was not accepted into the school, and instead partly made a living as a street artist.

Before he became active in the Nazi Party he tried several things- he tried to get into art school, but the board, ironicaly mostly Jews, denied him on the grounds that they found his art distasteful and he couldn't draw people very well. He also pursued a career as a soldier on the western front during WW1 where he earned the Iron Cross war medal.
