No one is truly sure as we cannot go back to the late 18th/early 19th century to ask him but whatever he saw was probably unconfortable simply out of the fact that an account sais that he came out "Looking as though he were a ghost." I myself wonder what he saw. It must have been terrifying or interesting or both. Because on his deathbed he said "There is no point. You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Or something or another to that effect. I dread to think of what he saw.
