As at the time of asking in June 2007, Keating had been strongly critical of the Australian Labor Party's position on handling the Industrial Relations policies of the Howard Government. This is significant because Keating is a former Labor Prime Minister and well known for his cutting remarks.
On this occasion he was canning the Rudd Opposition strategists as being too conservative, consensus driven saying they '...won't get out of bed in the morning unless they've had a focus group report telling them which side to get out.'
He proposed that the safety net for low income workers be reinstated while higher income mining workers remained on the Howard Government's Australian Workplace Agreement's or AWA's.
If this is out of date when you read this don't worry! Keating has a track record of coming out with classic statements and a web search of Keating insults gives interesting results.
