As far as I know Pocahontas was actually named Matoaka she was nicknamed pocahontas.
She had saved the life of John Smith when she kept her father from clubbing him to death when she was about 10 or 11 years old.

She isn't a hero and the story we think we know is not true. Smith did NOT save Jamestown. He was only there a very few months and he lied about his contribution to the settlement in a book he wrote several years later. He also made up the story about Pocahontas and she died young so couldn't refute his story. The man who did save Jamestown was the husband of Pocahontas and gave tobacco seeds to the colony. That was John Rolfe.
The legend tells us it was Pocahontas, but it is not true. Smith made it up and put it in a book after Pocahontas died. The purpose of the story was to make Smith a hero and savior of Jamestown, but it never happened.
There are 2 movies. Pocahontas and Pocahontas II
