General Edward Braddock led an expedition to Fort Duquesne in 1755 with the intention of capturing the strategically important French fort during the French and Indian War. He took along a large contingent of British regulars, colonial militia, and artillery, including cannons and supplies for a sustained siege. The expedition was notable for its use of heavy wagons to transport artillery, which ultimately slowed their advance. Unfortunately, Braddock's forces were ambushed near the fort, leading to a devastating defeat.
Lt. Colonel George Washington and his forces were overwhelmed and captured by French and Indian forces at Fort Necessity in 1754. He also took part of the ill-fated Monongahela Campaign that took the life of General Edward Braddock in 1755.
General Edward Braddock commanded British forces from 20 February 1755 until his death on the Monongahela River (Wounded on 9 July 1755 and died on 13 July 1755). George Washington was one of his Militia officers. Louis-Joseph de Montcalm was the commander of French forces until he was killed in defense of Quebec on 13 September 1759.
The colonel of the Virginia militia who attacked French soldiers near Fort Duquesne, thus igniting the French and Indian War, was George Washington. In 1754, he led a small force in an ambush against a French detachment, which ultimately escalated into a larger conflict between Britain and France in North America. This early engagement marked Washington's first significant military action and set the stage for his later prominence in the American Revolutionary War.

Fort Duquesne. =)
In 1754, the Virginia militia, led by Lieutenant Colonel George Washington, attempted to take Fort Duquesne but did not succeed. Instead, they engaged in a skirmish near the fort, known as the Battle of Jumonville Glen, which resulted in the death of a French commander but did not lead to the capture of the fort itself. The French forces subsequently reinforced Fort Duquesne, and it remained in their control until 1758.
Fort Duquesne was built in 1754 and was controlled by New France. On November 25, 1758, the Forbes Expedition captured the site for the British. The British then built a much bigger fort and called it Fort Pitt.
If you are referring to Fort Duquesne, it was built in 1754 at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, where they form the Ohio River in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

In the American colonies, the Seven Years' War was known as the French and Indian War, which began with the building of French forts in the Ohio Valley. Virginia militia troops under George Washington clashed with French troops near Fort Duquesne (1754). Washington was again involved in the defeat of British troops under General Braddock at the Battle of the Monongahela (1755), while clashes between the British and French at sea led to European war declarations in 1756.(see related question)
