The settlers at Mountain Meadows were Mormons.
In 1857, the Native Americans and Mormon settlers were trying to defend their territory from the United States government, which had sent 2,500 troops to take over authority in the area. A militia in the area of Mountain Meadows was on high alert, when a group from Arkansas began to travel through the area. They were planning on settling in California. The Arkansas group were attacked over a period of several days and anyone deemed old enough to remember the event was killed. The smallest children were taken in by Mormon families until the US government took custody of them.
Because of a major lack of records, the details of the story, including why the massacre happened, are not really known.
Answer The settlers at Mountain Meadow were massacred. According to Mormon Bishop John D Lee in his book The Confessions of John D Lee, he was the perpetrator of the murder of the 150 non-mormon immigrants. According to Lee he was acting under orders from Brigham Young, the then head of the Mormon church. Others who assisted Lee in the massacre also testified to the orders having come from Young. Twenty years later (in 1877) he was tried, convicted of the massacre and executed by the US Government.
It is thus quite clear from contemporary records of those involved, the conviction of the chief perpetrator by the US Government and the testimony of a number of those involved that the head of the Mormon church ordered this attack, although his motives for so doing were not clear.
Brigham Young died in 1877, the year of the trial and conviction of Bishop Lee.
From the above information, including the record of trial in a court of the US the first answer would appear quite clearly to be an attempt to whitewash this terrible event. It is clearly not the case that there is a "major lack of records". It is also clearly the case that the Mormon Church is aware of these facts, as are apologists for that church, else there would have not been a conviction.
Draper's Meadow massacre happened on 1755-07-08.
It is wind that blows over a field or meadow where the plants are dead.
The reason for the "Mountain Meadow Massacre" can be summarized in two words, "fear" and "hatred". The justification behind the attack had to have been motivated by these extremely powerful emotions. One would have had to walked in the shoes of the attackers to understand their rational, but in reviewing the atrocities that they had been subjected to since the begining of the LDS church, the mind does not have to wonder very far to find cause for fear and hate.
the chapter with the meadow scene
A perennial meadow grass with the Binomial name of Poa pratensis.
It comes from German meaning Meadow Peak
In the night, the mountain is covered in darkness and shadows, giving way to meadows and valleys filled with sunlight in the morning. The transition from the dark mountain to the bright meadow symbolizes the cycle of night turning into day, and the contrast between different landscapes.

Settlers went by wagon train, especially if they were poor, which many were and couldn't afford the long trek by boat around South America or through the Panama isthmus (there was no canal back then so it was a perilous trek through the jungle to the Pacific side). Several wagon trails went either through the Sierra Nevada mountains (think Donner party) or through the deserts to Southern California (Mojave desert, Death Valley). Why'd they go? For various reasons, land, gold, start a new life, running from the law, to get away from the overpopulated (and polluted) cities in the east. In the case of the Mormons it was for religious freedom. Most road in wagons, or walked on foot w/ their wagons. It was a long, grueling and dangerous voyage, settlers were often attacked by indians and bandits or even Mexicans and Mormons in the case of the Mountain Meadow Massacre (September Dawn movie). Disease, starvation and death from exposure to the elements also occurred.
A high level land or meadow that is between mountain ranges is known as a plateau. Plateaus are elevated flatlands that often occur between mountains and typically have a flat top and steep sides. They are important geographical features that can be found in various regions around the world.

No, this statement is not accurate. A prairie is a large open grassland, while a high meadow is typically found at elevations in mountainous areas. They are distinct types of habitats with different characteristics.
