We have little in the way of records of what nuns did for entertainment, but we have a few examples.
Hildegard of Bingen wrote music, wrote at least one play, and corresponded with a large number of people, from other nuns to kings and emperors. Clearly, a nun who wished to do so could spend a good deal of time being creative, and it is easy to imagine nuns entertaining themselves with all sorts of things, from embroidery to reading and writing poetry.
Monks and nuns contributed to the Middle Ages in many ways. One way was to care for the sick and poor. Another way was to build schools and teach at schools.
They didn't read. The bible wasn't printed until 1443 and most people, including nuns, couldn't read.
