The sign on the stake you saw was actually only one artist's representation of what happened when the Joan of Arc was executed. Remember that art doesn't necessarily depict the exact truth. According to accounts and historians the only thingwe know of her death was that she was burned at a stake, asked for a cross so the English produced a small cross for her before she died, and then her remains were burned twice more before being disposed of. Not the prettiest thing ever, but none the less the accepted truth, we do not know if there was truly ever a sign on the stake.
