The primary crops were grains, such as wheat, barley, oats, and rye. Legumes such as beans and peas were also important. In additions to these field crops, extensive gardens were grown. Vegetables such as onions, garlic, leeks, cabbage, turnips, parsnips, beets, carrots, lettuce, and other greens were raised. A wide variety of herbs was raised for flavoring and other uses.

Fruit, such as apples, Pears, plums, berries, and grapes was grown.

Animals such as sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, goats, and cattle were raised. These animals were exploited for all possible resources, including meat, milk, eggs, hide, fleece, bone, horn, and also in the case of cattle as draft animals.
