In WWII, there was a rationing of just about everything. We had ration cards for each member of the family. Each was alloted so much sugar, gasoline, shoes........you name it. I was a little girl, but I remember collecting newspaper, metal objects, aluminum foil, string, and other things. Almost everything was needed for use in making war items for the fighting men and women. We had to be very careful of what we used. If our shoes got holes in the bottoms, we put "half-soles" on them.
We had to limit our traveling, because we could run out of gasoline stamps. Even butter and margarine were rationed. Hope this helps.
The ration group of WWII was the Office of Price Administration (OPA).
the shopkeepers in world war 2 had to stamp the ration books to make sure that the person collecting the rations could not collect more.
