Women had no rights in the 1700's. They took care of families, farms, and houses. They couldn't go to school or college, couldn't vote, couldn't own a business, couldn't have a bank account, or couldn't live alone. If they were a single woman they were expected to live with family members like a brother or father or guardian. There were no laws against abuse so children and women were not protected against physical, mental, or sexual abuse. Animals were protected by law before women and children.
