Chances are that not much will happen. The expiration date is for potency. It's not like drinking spoiled milk or bad meat. You may still feel the effects of the medication, but it will most likely, depending on how much out of date they are, not be the most effective to solve your ailment. Best thing to do is to keep an eye on your medications in your cabinet, or where you store them, and got through them once a month to check dates and either throw out the expired ones you don't need anymore, or call your doc/pharmacy for a refill then throw the old away.

The exception to this would be medications that require refrigeration. If these are expired you need to throw them away when they expire, as the culture in them will die and can grow other life forms on them. Then you have the spoiled milk/bad meat scenario.
