The Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine was a questionable extension of traditional American policy that declared the US' right to intervene in Latin American nations under certain circumstances. It asserted American power to protect its economic interests and maintain stability in the region. EX. the US attacking Canada because we want to. we cant do that because Canada hasn't done anything to us.

According to my American National Government text book, this doctrine is based on the belief that military decisions should be weighed in light of political consideration. It also reflects the view that the preservation of representative democracy depends on keeping the military out of politics.
