They looked somewhat like a civilian yacht; sometimes with from 1 to 4 smoke stacks, about 200 feet long, narrow, made of steel, with the most pronounced identifying feature being the foreward bow deck. Metal came up over the top front of the vessel, much like a kayak paddle boat. So, in a way, the front of the torpedo boat destroyer was similar in design to a kayak.
