I assume you mean "apostasized", not "apostraphized", since turning people into apostrophes was not possible in the 1400s, nor is it today.

To apostatize someone is to declare that they are a heretic and can no longer be part of the religious community that they used to be a part of. It is a synonym of excommunicate. In 15th century France, to be apostatized would effectively mean that you were given a slow death sentence, since people would not be willing to associate with someone outside of their religious group.
