Trout are predators and will eat just about any creatures that they can find that are smaller than them. They will eat:

Aquatic insects and their larvae (nymphs)

Insects that land on the water, fall in the water or hatch under the water and rise to the surface.

Insect larvae that fall in the water from overhanging trees.

Smaller fish (including other trout) and eels.

Crustaceans such as crayfish and shrimp.

Tadpoles and frogs.

Worms and snails.

Large trout will eat small mammals, such as mice, that fall in the water and even baby birds such as ducklings.

Trout will eat the eggs of other trout.
