the kind of people that moved west were pioneers.
The Cumberland Pass or Cumberland Water Gap was widened by loggers under Daniel Boone to make it more accessible for pioneers into the frontier. The route was not discovered by Boone but was along used highway of the American Indians that a Virginia Doctor named Thomas Walker discovered on one of his wilderness explorations.
AIM first focused on Indians' urban problems, then focused on Indians rights. Novanet
If you had visited the frontier, you would have been on settled land by the American Indians.
The pioneers moved westward in Conestoga Wagons. The building of the Trans-Continental Railroad brought even more people. A lot of men also killed buffalo for sport, rather than for sustenance, which harmed the Indians. As waves and waves of settlers came, they changed the landscape, the wildlife, the Native American Indians, and 'consumed' the frontier. It reminds me of the 1995 movie, "TheLangoliers" where an ever-advancing time-warp monster 'consumes' the earth.
