Port talbot during the industrial revolution was good for making tin and limestone. The housing was good and illness was not a severe as in merthyr. Port Talbot also had a better standed of life and the wealthy talbot family built the docks to transport coal to other countries. The population grew, people had more money, kids could go to school, better conditions and better equipment

The railways came in 1833. From 1840 Middlesbrough Dock was built. Ironstone was found in the area in 1850. From then on, ironworks commenced and steel works followed. Middlesbrough set the world price for steel. The town became known as Ironopilis. The fortunes of the area have declined, but the town was/is a symbol of the Industrial Revolution
