Depending on what section of government one is speaking of, the Republican party has not necessarily lost dominance. One must analyze the individual states to in all fairness determine who dominates. As far as the Presidency, thanks to our general election system, any registered voter can vote for a candidate from any party on the ballot. Depending on the base of the Republican party in a particular state, the Republicans might be dominant or subservient. In the state of Kansas, for example, where the overall views of the voting citizens are predominately conservative, the Republicans are, indeed, dominant.

After almost a seventy-five year Republican dominance, The Great Depression ended the Republican dominance.
