the retreat
Auschwitz had 3 big 'main' camps. They were called Auschwitz I, Auschwitz Birkenau and Auschwitz Monowitz. Monowitz was really a sub camp which was commonly used and when expanded did become as part of the main camps. Out of the lot, Auschwitz Birkenau was the biggest and most feared of as this part was about Extermination when the Final Solution was putted in place.
The 2 Periods of Auschwitz is: 1. the Polish Period: This period happened from Opening of Auschwitz Birkenau to February 1942. This period concede where Poles were sent to Auschwitz and used as slave labor. 2. the Jewish Period: This period happened when the first known mass transports of Jews (from Bytom) on February 15th 1942. This period is the reason why Auschwitz Birkenau is what it was known for and the complicated death toll. This date actually marks the beginning of the incorporation of Auschwitz into the program of the Final Solution.
The Wannsee Conference was concerned with organizing the practical arrangements of the 'Final Solution'. The decision to kill the European Jews had already been taken, and at a higher level.
Auschwitz was part of hitlers final solution concerning the Jews and other undesidables. it was Reinhard Heydrich who was appointed to come up with a "final solution" by Hitler. Heydrich chose Poland as the place for the camps. Auschwitz was there. Hitler agreed with the decision. +++ The heading photograph appears to be of one the Nazis' inhumane experiments carried out using concentration-camp inmates; that of testing survivability of humans in icy cold water. Though that was done to help the Kreigsmarine and Luftwaffe, whose serviceman could find themselves in the cold waters of the North Sea, the method was utterly cruel and inhumane.
The Wannasee Conference was where all of the powers of Germany got together and decided the "Final Solution" which was to eliminate the Jews by using gas chambers disguised as showers. The reason they decided this was because the camps were getting too full.
It is a day to remember the Nazi "Final Solution" of exterminating the Jews. The day is 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz I, II and III by Soviet forces in 1945.

Auschwitz started with a simple complex which only had around 20 barracks but when the Nazis took over this part of Poland, they turned it to a concentration camp called Auschwitz I. However, with more jews and POWs being sent to different concentration camps, Auschwitz needed to expand and when the Nazis were planning to create the Final Solution. This was when frequent deaths occurred which turned into hell fire when the Final Solution was ordered.
Auschwitz was established in May 1940. It's purpose was to carry out Hitler's Final Solution to the Jewish problem; to kill Europe's Jews.
