Why did the Egyptians use the word pharaoh to refer to their ruler even though this word does not literally mean king?

The Egyptian word pharaoh does not directly translate to king because they didn't have a king. They had a Pharaoh. Just like how Americans use the word President and it doesn't directly translate to king. Because they do not have a king. They have a president. Incidentally, Egyptians believed their pharaoh was not just the head of state but also a god. The word "pharaoh" comes from the Egyptian "per-aha" which translates as "big house". Its use is similar to our modern day use of "The Pentagon announced so-and-so" or "Downing Street announced that...", referring to the person that lives there, not the place itself. The term was not used until New Kingdom times, so it is not correct to say that "pharaohs" built the pyramids.

What items were in pharaoh's tomb?

Egyptians dedicated their lives to their death. Egyptians believed that there was an afterlife, a life after they die that is supposed to be a continuation of their life on Earth. Pharaohs spent most of their lives preparing for their death. A pharaoh's tomb or pyramid's construction usually began as soon as they became pharaoh. Instead of a pyramid, pharaohs of the New Kingdom had tombs cut deep in the rock of the Valley of the Kings, in Thebes. When a pharaoh died he was mummified and placed in his sarcophagus, with his goods, jewelry and treasurea, for the deceased to use in the afterlife.

1) They were supplying free labor.2) At first he was simply stubborn on his own account. The fact that he asked his necromancers to replicate the early Plagues (Exodus ch.7) shows that he didn't want to believe. Later, as a punishment, God Himself hardened Pharaoh's heart (Exodus ch.9).
