Very generally, Egyptian architecture is clean cut with straight lines and just about no cracks. Buildings and such were made to outlast time, and have so far. Of course you have the triangular pyramids and such, but most buildings, like temples and such, were very square, and statues were smoothed over very nicely. There is a theory that pyramids were built according to the position of the sun and the moon, however it hasn't been proven, and I'm not sure myself.
The Egyptian architecture is characterized by the materials used. There was a scarcity of wood so they had to rely on minerals including sandstone, limestone, and granite, which were generally used for tombs and temples. Unbaked mud brick was also used. The flooding of the Nile river was responsible for destruction of many structures except for those left standing that weren't affected by floods.
The architecture is also characterized by thick, sloping walls with few openings, possibly echoing a method of construction used to obtain stability in mud walls. In a similar manner, the sharply indented and flatly modelled surface adornment of the stone buildings may have derived from beautification of the mud walls. One particular structure , the Luxor Temple, had input by two Pharaohs.
The Luxor Temple took over 100 years to be completed. It has columns, statues, and friezes that were placed in at the time of Horembeb and Tutankhamen to Ramesses II expanded the complex with pylon gateway leading into a peristyle courtyard. This structure is unusual since it had two of the Pharaohs having input into it's building.
