Medieval cuisine (to my limited knowledge) consisted primarily of game meats (deer, venison, pheasant) prepared on a spit or over fire, and northern European vegetables for the landed gentry at court (kings, lords, dukes, etc) and a more starch based diet which featured meat less frequently. During this time period hunting in the king's forests was strictly illegal as all the game technically belonged to the king.
