"Camp Harmony" is the story of a young Japanese-American girl who writes of being interred in a relocation camp during World War II. Some possible themes are: 1. Innocent people often bear the burden of blame for the things they didn't do. 2. In a struggle with the state, individuals are often helpless victims. 3. People value freedom. 4. Good vs. evil.
The main site was liberated on 27 January 1945. Most of the surviving prisoners were desperately ill and need urgent medical attention. It took some months to shut down the camp completely, though after liberation it ceased to function as a concentration camp.
Valcartier Camp, established in 1914 near Quebec City, holds historical significance as a key training ground for Canadian military forces, particularly during World War I and World War II. It served as a mobilization center for troops, contributing significantly to Canada’s military readiness and participation in global conflicts. The camp also played a crucial role in fostering national identity and pride among Canadians, as it was a site where many soldiers began their journey to serve. Today, Valcartier continues to function as a military base, reflecting its enduring importance in Canadian military history.
Belzec extermination (death) camp started gassings on 17 March 1942 and ceased to function by 31 December 1942. In that time 434,508 Jews and an unknown number of Gypsies were killed there. It was the deadliest Nazi camp of all. There are only two(!) known survivors. (Note. A small 'ordinary' concentration camp existed at Belzec from 1940-41).
