Each of these Axis Powers sought to expand their territories by the use of force. In 1939, all of this came to a head when Germany invaded Poland & by treaty, the USSR occupied eastern Poland.

Hitler wanted to control Europe. This meant from the Urals in the east to the channel coast in the west. From Norway in the north to the med in the south. Hitler's stated method of obtaining this land was thru sheer brute force, ie militarily. Mussolini wanted nothing less than the re-establishment of the old Roman Empire with him as the new Emperor. He wanted to control the lands that the ceasars had ruled. His problem was that his military was not up to the task. Tojo wanted to implement the greater Asian co-prosperity sphere. This area would have been one where Japan ruled over the lands and islands and seas. Everything within this sphere would have been working to aid the growth of Japan.

Hitler had been an enlisted man during WWI (and decorated with the IRON CROSS). WWII, for him, was also vengence against France and the allies for Germany's defeat in the first world war. Mussolini was trying to revitalize the "Roman Empire" within Italy. Tojo, through the Emperor, was trying to control all (or most) of Asia, to control those area's raw materials, so as NOT to rely on other countries for import. To make Japan "self-sustaining."

The main connection between the Axis in a war in common against Britain, the US & others, notably Australia. The war in Europe had little in common with the war in the Pacific, other that that it took place at largely the same time, against common opponents using the same types of weapons. Obviously the fact that Britain was up to its neck in Europe affected Japanese aggression against British far east defenses and coincidentally the US on entering the war because of Pearl Harbor decided to declare war on Germany & Italy. There goal was to conquer the world.
