John J. Pershing's first wife, Frances Warren, died in 1924 due to complications from stomach cancer. They had three daughters together: Mary, Anne, and Helen. Unfortunately, two of their daughters died at a young age - Mary from tuberculosis at the age of 7 and Anne from meningitis at the age of 3. Only Helen, their third daughter, survived into adulthood.
