Regarding this question to mean John Brown, his trial was given much attention in the North. This was especially true for the abolitionist movement. They considered Brown to be a martyr. Most Americans did not like the violence he committed. His trial was a quick one, so there was not allot of time to talk about him. He was hanged for treason shortly after his attempted slave revolt.

John Brown's mission was to abolish Slavery. On October 16th 1859, John Brown and his 21 men attacked Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Thinking the slaves would rise and fight for themselves, they did not. Not only left to fend for themselves, John Brown was captured and executed on December 2nd, 1859. The individual Raid on Harpers Ferry was a failure. However, it may have been one of the little things that pushed Slavery to its end.
