Advances in transport facilitated distribution of both manufactured goods and foodstuffs for growing urban populations. Living standards improved as average per capita income tripled in the more developed regions in the century to 1914 and improved nutrition, health and medicine doubled world population. Gains in literacy and education combined with technological innovation to create the first mass media.

Many things! Child labor started, and kids as young as 7 were working 14 hours a day in a factory. The industrial revolution was the first major start in air pollution because of smoke from factories. Labor unions started and were protesting everywhere. Tons of new inventions were being created and the prices of many things went down because everything was much easier to make with all of the machinery. Europe's economy was thriving because of all the money they were making off of factories.
