Arthur, Prince of Wales, was Henry's older brother and heir to the throne of Henry VII, their father.
He was born on the 19/20 September 1486. On the 14th November 1501, he married Katherine of Aragon. He was 14 and Katherine was almost 16. In March 1502 Arthur fell ill with (probably) tuberculosis and he died on 2 April.
Eventually Henry married the widow, Katherine in 1509, after the death of Henry VII, as it was said her marriage to Arthur had not been consummated. They had one living child, Mary (later Mary I). However, when Henry subsequently decided to divorce Katherine, he brought into question the non-consummation of Katherine's marriage to Arthur, in order to give him ammunition for an annullment.
