Colonists opposed to the American Revolution were called Loyalists. Many Americans despised them and many Loyalists resettled in British Canada.

No. The usual thinking is that about one-third of the colonists supported independence, about one-third opposed it, and the other third had no strong opinion on the matter.

He was also initially opposed to independence, but signed the Declaration for the sake of unanimity.The oldest signer was Benjamin Franklin, who was 70 at the time. At the signing, Franklin famously said "We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately."
