The Armenians demanded their rights, both in the Russian Empire and in the Ottoman Empire on multiple occasions, specifically their right to practice their religion freely and to organize themselves autonomously or independently of the larger empire. When Armenians began demanding more rights, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it led to increased tensions with the Ottoman Empire, which viewed these demands as a threat to its authority. This tragic event marked a significant turning point in Armenian history and intensified their struggle for recognition and rights, both within the Ottoman Empire and later in the Republic of Armenia. The legacy of these demands continues to shape Armenian identity and geopolitical relations in the region today.
