What impact did Treaty of Versailles have during the time it occurred?

The treaty of Versailles included France, Great Britain, U.S., and Italy. It basically completely crushed Germany and blamed it for the cause of WWI. Woodrow Wilson said that the treaty would be based off of his 14 points.

By the time of World War II the Treaty was defunct. Germany had broken the treaty numerous times during the 1930's (by sending troops into the Rhineland, by merging with Austria, by creating an air force, by defaulting on its reparations payments, by ignoring the restrictions on the German armed forces imposed by the treaty). The Allied powers had effectively recognised the treaty as extinct by their limited reactions as a response to these breaches by Germany.

The final breach of the Treaty was when Germany invaded and annexed large parts of Poland - starting World War II. The treaty was effectively finished long before this date though.

The Treaty of Versailles

After the assassination of leader Archduke Ferdinand government leaders were brought together in 1919 in Versailles near Paris to sign a peace treaty. There were thirty two countries that represented this treaty, and Canada was proudly one of them. The prime minister of Canada, Robert Borden, declared that Canada attended the meeting as a separate nation from Britain. He argued that Canada should be given the right to have its own voice, because of its major contribution to the war. Happily, Canada attended the meeting in its own 2 seats, but "The Big Three" meaning Britain, France and the United States made the important decisions. At the Treaty of Versailles, leaders agreed to Borden's speech and gave Canada the right to become an independent nation. Canada entered the war dependent of Britain, but showed their nationalism and strength earning themselves a new sense of national recognition. that's wat it is summed up :] hope it helps
