Papyrus paper/ scrolls were made out of the Papyrus plant (Cyperus papyrus) which grew along the banks of the River Nile.
The plant is a large reed and grows up to about 9 foot tall and has fairly think stems. The stems were cut into segments and then divided through the legnth of the segment to make a number or thin slices. These were then interwoven and beaten together. Once they were dried they formed a very thin mat which could be written on.
