How did vikings become Norsemen?

The Norsemen (Northern Germanic peoples from Denmark, Norway and Sweden) began a-Viking during what is historically known as the Viking Age (late 8th to 11th century). Viking is an occupation (like a blacksmith, farmer etc.), meaning one who goes raiding, pillaging, merchandising, trading, exploring and eventually colonizing (Iceland, Normandy, Russia etc.). Only a certain class of Norsemen were vikings, majority of the Norse stayed behind during their adventures. Essentially, Norsemen became vikings when began raiding and pillaging the coasts and inlets of Brittan, France, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. There are many theories for why the Norsemen began exploring and raiding during the late 8th century.

Is Norsemen American?

No. The Norsemen (Meaning North Men) were from Scandinavia. They were also known as the Vikings. The area at the time was not divided into many countries as it is today. It is believed by some that the Norsemen actually discovered the Americas before the Europeans, although the same theory suggests that they did not settle there, but only made sporadic forrays to capture slaves for sale in their homelands. This is not an improbable theory, as the Norsemen were extremely capable sailors and navigators. As nice a theory as it might be, however, there is no material evidence to support it, and all accounts are purely supposition. Ferrocious in battle, bearing heavy armour and wielding mighty weapons, the Norsemen would have been a terrible enemy to any AmerIndian tribe who might have encountered them.
