St. Lucas' Leap is the name of the gap separating the first stack of the Old Harry Rocks from the headland. The Old Harry Rocks are at the headland between the bays of Studland and Swanage on the southern coast of England.
The name is in memory of a pedigree greyhound who died when it attempted to chase a hare near the Old Harry Rocks.
The gap was apparently formed after the collapse of a natural arch feature that existed at the site.
The proud English surname of Lucas is distinguished in the early records of Hertfordshire, where they had held a family seat. It derives from the masculine baptismal name of St. Luke the Evangelist.
