These medals were included in a series of LP's narrated by Art Baker about the lives of the presidents published by Kayson Int. Ltd. Art Baker died in 1966 so the recordings must have been made before then - the medallions seem to have been struck for the purpose of being included with these "audio books", so they probably date to the mid-sixties. A search of past sales on eBay reveals that they are readily available for a few US dollars.
In the election of 1796, Thomas Jefferson represented the Democratic-Republican party against John Adams, who was a Federalist. John Adams won, and since Jefferson came in second, he became the vice president. Having a specific vice presidential candidate did not occur until some years later.
