It can go into remission by itself when the person is free from depression, but can have recurrence. Medicines and treatments like electroconvulsive therapy bring remarkable improvement in most people. For prevention of relapse maintenance dose of antidepressants and cognitive behavior therapy can be effective. The person with Major Clinical Depressive Disorder can be symptomfree, but is not cured.(Like Diabetes and hypertension)
